Boundless Connections’ staff engage STEM fairgoers

Armed primarily with a whiteboard, staff from Boundless Connections Technology Center in Olean engaged area middle and high students in the Dream It. Do It. Manufacturing and STEM Fair, May 6, 2022, asking them, “What tech excites you?”

More than 400 local students streamed through the fair, held Friday, May 6, 2022, at the Lincoln Park Pavillion in Olean.

“One of the best parts about working with tech is it’s always an invitation to connect,” Ryan Michelle Wilcox, program outreach manager, said.

“Sure, we could have brought a 3D printer, our CNC machine or any number of the cool things we have at the tech center, but the coolest thing we have is people: people who are excited about technology in all its forms and who are excited to share it with others. So, we pulled out the whiteboard and asked everyone to share with us, and it was a lot of fun!”

Fairgoers were asked to add a mark under the tech field(s) they were most excited about, and to add the field if it wasn’t already on the whiteboard.

Tech-related fields with the highest number of “votes” from students included Virtual Reality, software development, hardware, 3D printing, robotics, graphic design, game design and animation.

The Boundless Connections Technology Center in Olean offers programming for teens and adults: TECH Unleashed, for anyone 13-17 years old, meets Thursdays after school 3:30-5:30; and TECH Launch, for anyone over 17, meets Noon-3:30 Monday through Friday.
